Kay Langston Scholarship/Triton College Foundation - Application Opens September 15th for Spring
SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: Up to $1,500 per year for tuition, fees, and books.
BACKGROUND: Academic year 2013 marks the introductory award year for the Kay Langston Scholarship. This scholarship was established in honor of the retired Triton College administrator who worked tirelessly on behalf of academic support and lifelong learning services. Her legacy also includes her commitment to the community through grant funded outreach programs, services, and informal learning programs and activities for youth. The intent of the scholarship is to aid and support students in achieving their goals and dreams.
REQUIREMENTS:
• Part-time or full-time student
• New or returning student
• Illinois resident; preference given to in-district students
• Priority will be given to African-American and Latino applicants
• An essay is required – see topic below
• Students who receive this award must agree to: work under the guidance of a mentor; select a program of study prior to or during the semester of their first award; participate in scholarship fundraisers; strive to increase their grade point average each term, and participate in an extra-curricular activity. With the recipients’ approval, a mentor may continue to monitor the student after completion of their certificate or degree
• The scholarship is renewable provided the recipients have satisfactorily fulfilled the requirements of the initial award and funding is available
