Jean McAlpine Powell Memorial Scholarship/Triton College Foudation - Application Opens April 15th for Fall and September 15th for Spring

SCHOLARSHIP AMOUNT: Up to $500 per semester for tuition, fees and books.

BACKGROUND: The Jean McAlpine Powell Memorial Scholarship was established in 2015 by Jean’s children, after her death in late 2014. Jean was a resilient, kind and bright woman who worked at Triton College for many years, as an Academic Advisor. She was the perfect example of resilience and sheer will when she emerged from a painful divorce in her 40s. She was determined to go to college and was able to take that first step when a neighbor gave her a loan of $500. She didn’t stop at classes, but obtained two Associates degrees from Triton and then went on to achieve her Bachelor’s degree from National Louis University. She was a fierce advocate for battered women and young people trying to overcome tough situations to improve their lives and get an education. She believed strongly in the power of lifelong education, second chances, and that a little support and push in the right direction can change lives.
