The Aurelina L. Sanchez Memorial Scholarship/Triton College Foundation

Nursing is in more demand than ever, but many students lack the generational wealth and associated opportunities of their peers and are unable to apply their talents in service of pursuing a career in nursing. The late Aurelina L. Sanchez was an immigrant to the United States from the Philippines in 1970 and spent the rest of her life in the U.S. recruiting new people to the field of nursing. This scholarship in her name is intended to help students in economic need to obtain an education that will help them become nursing professionals.

• Scholarship amount: Up to $1000 per semester, which can be used for tuition, fees and books only.

• This is a one-semester scholarship (fall) and is renewable pending availability of funds, and dependent upon the student maintaining an overall grade-point average (G.P.A.) of 3.0 or higher in the program. (A formal transcript is required for renewal.)

• The deadline to apply for fall 2021 is on or before Aug. 1, 2021.

Requirements

• Applicant must be a village of Broadview, village of Maywood or village of Stone Park resident (proof of residency required) who is a new or continuing Nursing Program student attending Triton College full- or part-time. Residency can be demonstrated through use of documentation such as recent utility bills or other regularly occurring mail.

• Applicant must have a grade-point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher in secondary school/high school (transcript required).

• Consideration of extracurricular work (if any), including clubs and activities in school and community or charity work.

• Consideration of work experience to date.

• Applicant must submit a brief essay (1000 words or less) in which the student describes who she/he is, her/his background, their economic need and the reasons why they want to attend nursing school.

Incomplete applications will not be reviewed.
